Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo Inc has entered into a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTT Anode Energy Corp (NTT AE) tied to a newly-constructed solar power plant, the former announced on Tuesday.

NTT Docomo said in a statement that this off-site contract will allow it to fully supply its Okayama building with renewable power from next month. The particular building accommodates network facilities.

NTT AE’s new solar park in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture, will deliver electricity exclusively to NTT Docomo, with any shortage of power being offset through the purchase of non-fossil certificates designated for renewable energy.

The contract is part of NTT Docomo’s efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero by the end of the decade. Through the deal, the Okayama building will be able to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by about 10,000 tonnes per year, according to the announcement.
