Japan's Eneos Renewable Energy Corp (ERE) has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of some 18 MW of solar power plants it operates in the Kansai region.

The agreement was signed with the West Japan Railway Co (TYO:9021), or JR West, and the Kansai Electric Power Co (TYO:9503), also known as KEPCO, ERE announced on Friday.

Under the PPA, which will start this fiscal year, ERE will supply around 300 million kWh per year to KEPCO. Afterwards, the power utility will act as the retail electricity provider and supply the electricity to JR West.

ERE noted that JR West will use the clean electricity to power train operations on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line between Shin-Osaka Station and Okayama Station, in turn offsetting about 12,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
