Japanese renewable power producer Renova Inc (TYO:9519) announced on Wednesday that the 74.8-MW Tokushima-Tsuda Biomass Power Plant has recommenced power generation.

The plant, which uses wood pellets and palm kernel shells as fuel, had its operations halted due to repair work carried out based on regular inspection and maintenance.

Located at the Port of Tokushima-Komatsushima, Japan's Tokushima prefecture, the biomass-fired power plant has an annual output estimated at 500,000 MWh. Renova estimates the facility should be capable of meeting the consumption needs of around 150,000 households each year.

Renova noted the plant is scheduled for a second shutdown period for the implementation of permanent improvements from late September to late December 2024.

Tokushima-Tsuda is majority-owned by Renova with a 60.8% share. Osaka Gas is second with 33.5%, while the remaining three co-owners each hold a 1.9% share.
