Japanese renewable power producer Renova Inc (TYO:9519) announced on Monday that the 75-MW Omaezakikou biomass plant had its commercial operation date postponed to October 2024.

Omaezakikou was originally scheduled to come online in July 2024, but the plan was changed due to the increase in time needed for final adjustments to the boiler and turbine to ensure stable operation.

The project vehicle has received compensation for the damages the delay might have caused, as established in the EPC contract.

According to the company's website, the plant will use wood pellets, and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel sources. Once completed, it should be capable of generating around 530 million kWh per year, enough to meet the demand of some 170,000 households.

Aside from Renova, the other joint investors in the project are Chubu Electric Power Co Inc, Mitsubishi Electric Financial Solutions Corporation and Suzuyo Shoji Co Ltd.
