Japan’s TMEIC Corporation said on Tuesday that its US-based unit plans to relocate its headquarters to Houston, Texas, and to build a new photovoltaic (PV) inverter factory in the state with an initial annual production capacity of 9 GW.

The TMEIC group specialises in PV inverters and energy storage systems. In North America, the company has installed more than 28 GW of renewable energy systems since setting foot in the market in 2010.

The new manufacturing facility will be located in Brookshire, near TMEIC's existing uninterruptible power supply and medium voltage drive manufacturing plant in Katy. Spanning 144,000 square feet (13,378 sq m), the factory is expected to start operations in October 2024. Depending on the market demand, the capacity of the plant could be expanded in the future.

TMEIC Corp Americas is currently based in Roanoke, Virginia, and plans to relocate next March. The Roanoke location will be kept to design, develop and engineer advanced automation systems, large AC motors and variable frequency drive systems for various industrial sectors worldwide.
