Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTJapan's Zephyr Corporation said on Tuesday the wireless arm of Croatian telco Hrvatski Telekom [ZSE:HT-R-A] will be using its wind turbines to power off-grid base stations along the Adriatic coast.
This follows a two-month renewable energy trial which firmly established the business case for wind power, Zephyr Corporation said in a statement on its website.
Financial details were not disclosed.
The trial site base stations were previously powered by solar energy, however, despite a large number of panels and a huge battery bank, not enough energy was produced during the winter and so there were always long periods of backup power needed from an alternative source.
The turbines are expected to provide up to 50% of the daily power requirement during the winter months and will complement the existing solar array.
Established in 1997, Zephyr Corporation is a privately owned company which is headquartered in Japan and has offices in Sweden, the U.S and Dubai. More than 4,000 of Zephyr Corporation’s turbines have been installed worldwide.
