Jordan Green Ammonia LLC has signed land deals for a site in its home country where it plans to install a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility and an on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) plant.

The land use agreements were signed with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), Jordan Green said on Thursday. The deal comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the developer and the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) signed last October.

The proposed complex is set to produce between 100,000 and 300,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually through water electrolysis. The hub will not rely on grid electricity, with power for the production process to be sourced from off-grid photovoltaic (PV) panels and energy storage systems. The capacity will be installed in phases and production activity is expected to commence by 2029.

Under the land use agreement with ASEZA, Jordan Green will be able to carry out feasibility studies and and finalise engineering designs over the coming months. So far, the company has completed the technical report and pre-feasibility study related to the scheme. Jordanian company Dar Al-Handasah has completed the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
