Jordan is planning to set up a solar cell factory in the country with investments in the project estimated at around JOD 100 million (USD 141.04m/EUR 130.5m).

The factory will be located in an area of 130 dunums (130,000 square metres) southeast of the Queen Alia International Airport near the capital Amman and is planned to become operational by the end of this year.

It will create 520 jobs.

The announcement was made at the A Year of Modernisation forum held in the Dead Sea area on Saturday as broadcast by public news service Al-Mamlaka TV.

The new production plant will support Jordan's goal of reaching a 50% share of renewables in its power mix by 2030.
