Jordan is preparing to put a 24-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park into operation in the Arab country's southern Disi area, water minister Mohammad Najjar said on Tuesday.

The operational procedures for the project have been already launched under the supervision of the Planning and Management Department at the Water Authority of Jordan, Najjar said in a statement by the ministry.

German inspection company TUV will carry out the necessary assessments to facilitate the announcement of the project's commercial operation. In the first year of operation, the facility is expected to generate 79 GWh of power.

The project was executed by Chinese contractor SEPCO III. It aligns with Jordan's National Water Strategy for 2023-2040, under which the share of renewable energy should be raised by 10% by 2025.

Najjar noted that the project was backed with a EUR-30-million (USD 32.4m) EU grant through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Part of the funding is allocated to a battery energy storage system that will be connected to the national grid and a 1-MW solar energy project at the Zara Maen station.
