Mass Group Holding (MGH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jordan's energy ministry to explore the development of green hydrogen projects across the country targeting the production of 180,000 tons of green ammonia annually.

Under the pact, the Amman-based group will conduct initial feasibility studies, the ministry said on Tuesday.

After completing the preliminary studies, and depending on the results, the ministry will enter into a framework agreement leading to the final investment agreement for the project, energy minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said in the statement.

Al-Kharabsheh noted that the memorandum is part of the government's efforts to enhance Jordan's role as a regional centre for green energy production which aligns with the country's strategic position in the Middle East and Africa. As part of these efforts, the government has already signed seven pacts with local and international companies for feasibility studies for green hydrogen projects across the country.

MGH's chairman Ahmad Ismail Saleh expressed approval for the government's increased investment in green hydrogen, highlighting Jordan's strategic location and abundant wind and solar energy resources.

MGH is already active in renewable energy. The group has a 100-MW wind park located about 130 km south of Jordan's capital Amman. The Al-Tafilah wind farm has been in operation since 2020. In addition to its energy unit, the group has cement and steel plants in Iraq and Sudan.
