AMEA Power signs PPAs for 1 GW of solar, 900 MWh of BESS in Egypt
Sep 12, 2024 16:39 CESTJUWI Gruppe said today it is in the final stages of commissioning what it says is the world’s largest solar hybrid project at the Sukari gold mine in Egypt, run by a government entity and Centamin Plc (LON:CEY).
The project consists of a 36-MW solar farm with bifacial photovoltaic (PV) panels installed on trackers and a 7.5-MW battery energy storage facility, both integrated into an existing diesel power station.
According to the company’s announcement, the system will help save up to 70,000 litres of diesel per day and an average of 22 million litres per year, while also reducing operating costs and lowering carbon emissions.
JUWI has a rich history in developing solar-plus-storage plants for mining clients, having completed several projects in Australia and Africa.
