German renewables developer Juwi GmbH said today that it has sold a 267-MW solar portfolio in Greece to investment firms Foresight and Mirova, and signed new contracts to realise the projects.

Going forward, Juwi will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance (O&M) contractor on the portfolio, with a job to build and monitor three clusters of solar farms -- of 160 MW, 40 MW and 67 MW.

The German developer bought the portfolio from UK’s Hive Energy in November 2023 through its Greek unit Juwi Hellas. Foresight and Mirova acquired the package as a joint venture.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The solar farms will be located in the regional units of Fthiotida and Larissa, Central Greece, at a site spanning 430 hectares. Together, the three clusters will feature around 430,000 bifacial solar panels, over 800 string inverters and about 16,000 single-axis trackers systems.

Juwi will launch construction in August 2024. Commissioning of the solar complex is planned to take place in the first quarter of 2026.

“Juwi currently has a pipeline of 500 megawatts of solar projects in various stages of development in Greece. With the combined capacity of 267 megawatts, the Foresight and Mirova solar portfolio will be the largest in our history. This underlines our role as one of the leading project development companies in selected foreign markets,” commented Stephan Hansen, COO of the Juwi group and responsible for the international business.

Once operational, these new solar farms will be capable of generating around 515 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, about enough to meet power consumption needs of more than 100,000 Greek people, according to Juwi.
