Kazakh tender awards 70 MW of wind, solar

Kazakhstan’s power market operator JSC Korem has awarded 70 MW of wind and solar projects in domestic tenders held as part of the country's 2021 renewable energy procurement programme.

A 20-MW project is the winner in the solar tender, in which prices reached as low as KZT 12.87 (USD 0.0297/EUR 0.0263) per kWh. The project was put forward by Kazakhstan-based NextEcoEnergy PTE LTD LLP, the electricity market operator announced.

The competitive round, held earlier this month, attracted 14 proposals with a combined capacity of 60 MW. Only five companies were allowed to bid. The highest offered price in the tender stood at KZT 16.96 per kWh, without Value Added Tax (VAT).

Separately, JSC Korem has selected a 50-MW wind project by Hyperborea LLP, which offered a price of KZT 14.08 per kWh, without VAT. It was among the 13 companies that had the right to take part in the tender, in which proposals for 550 MW were submitted. The highest offered price was KZT 21.53 per kWh.

The two procurement rounds were launched under an order by the Ministry of Energy for tendering 200 MW of renewable energy capacity in 2021, including 20 MW of solar, 50 MW of wind and 120 MW of hydropower. Some 10 MW is reserved for biopower projects.
