Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy held on Tuesday an online auction that resulted in the selection of a Chinese firm to build a 100-MW wind power plant to serve the northern region of the country’s Unified Power System (UPS).

The chosen party, called Mezgilder Qushteri LLP, has won the auction with a bid of KZT 12.39 (USD 0.0265/EUR 0.0255) per kWh, without VAT, against a ceiling price of KZT 21.53/kWh.

According to the announcement, the Chinese firm has outbid four other bidders and is now expected to build the wind farm in the Ulytau region.

The competitive bidding process was observed by representatives of the energy ministry, KazEnergy, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), USAID, and others.
