Swiss renewables investment platform Keppel MET Renewables (KMR) said today it has taken possession of a 20-MWp portfolio of two solar projects in Northern Italy.

The joint venture between Swiss energy company MET Group and Singaporean conglomerate Keppel Corp Ltd (SGX:BN4) has bought the schemes from Italy-based developer ReFeel New Energy (RNE) for an undisclosed sum. Both projects are currently in the ready-to-build phase and are expected to become operational in 2025.

The photovoltaic (PV) plants will be installed in the regions of Piedmont and Lombardy, in northwestern and northern Italy, respectively. Once up and running, they will have a combined output of roughly 30 GWh, equal to the electricity consumption of over 10,000 local homes annually.

“The closing of this transaction marks a key milestone in our ambition to build a portfolio of state-of-the-art wind and solar projects across the European Union,” said Luke Gillott, CEO of KMR.

At present, KMR has 277 MWp of early to mid-stage solar projects in its Italian portfolio, with the capacity planned to go online over the next few years. The company acquired a 38-MWp PV project in southern Italy’s Apulia region last autumn, anticipating the scheme to become shovel-ready in 2025 and begin operations a year later.
