Japanese manufacturers of NAND flash memory Kioxia Group announced today it is deploying 7.5 MW of rooftop solar systems at its Kitakami and Yokkaichi factories.

Specifically, the company has a 3.6-MW solar system in operation atop the Kitakami plant in the northern prefecture of Iwate, and is currently installing a 3.9-MW array at the Yokkaichi facility in Mie prefecture, southern-central Japan. The larger PV system is scheduled to commence power generation in June of this year.

Together, the duo is expected to generate some 7,600 MWh of clean electricity per year, allowing Kioxia to offset around 3,200 tonnes of total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, the manufacturer said.

Kioxia noted that both solar systems will be operated and maintained under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
