Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTUK-based energy firm Konexa is set to sign an agreement with Nigerian power generator North South Power (NSP) aimed at powering Nigeria’s largest brewing company with 100% renewables.
UK Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch will witness the signing during her visit to Nigeria where she is due to forge a broader trade and investment partnership between the two countries, the UK government said on Tuesday.
The agreement with NSP will enable Konexa to supply Nigerian Breweries Plc, a Heineken NV (AMS:HEIA) company, 100% renewable power, promote sustainable development and clean energy adoption, and lead to infrastructure investments of over GBP 14 million (USD 17.6m/EUR 16.4m), the Department for Business and Trade said in Tuesday’s press release.
“Over the last few years, Konexa has been working on a disruptive model that matches customer energy demand with renewable energy supply,” said Konexa CEO Pradeep Pursnani. “We are looking forward to investing more than £120m in renewable energy generation, transmission, distribution, and battery storage solutions to help our customers transition away from the use of fossil fuel.”
Nigerian Breweries has an ongoing relationship with Konexa, stemming from a 2022 power purchase agreement (PPA) that supported the transition of the brewer’s facilities in Kakuri and Kudenda to hydro-based renewables.
More recently, Nigerian Breweries engaged Daystar Power to install a solar-plus-storage hybrid system for its brewery in Lagos.
