More than 140 companies have shown interest in Kosovo’s first competitive auction for the development of a 100-MW solar power plant in the municipality of Rahovec, according to the country’s economy minister Artane Rizvanolli.

The minister unveiled this on social media during the weekend, saying that interest comes from numerous countries including Switzerland, Germany, France, the UK and the US, among others.

The deadline for submitting bids was recently pushed back to September 29 from August 18, 2023.

Interested parties will be bidding for the right to build a solar power plant on public land in Kramovik, with a 30-year lease and a guaranteed 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

The government of Kosovo has set a target to reach a 35% renewables share by 2031 and to become carbon neutral by 2050.
