Kosovo’s inaugural 100-MW solar auction has attracted six bidders, including companies from Turkey, France, Germany, Switzerland and Egypt, the government said on Saturday.

The companies and consortia that are competing for the right to develop a 100-MW solar project in the municipality of Rahovec are: the consortium Calik-Limak from Turkey; Notus Energy Kosovo, which is a local entity of a German company; France’s Akuo Energy SAS; Egypt’s Elswedy Electric; another Turkish consortium, Guris Insaat Muhendishik; and the Kosovo office of Swiss consortium Orllati.

The government received the six bids by the auction’s extended deadline of January 31.

Over the following weeks, an evaluation committee will review the proposals. Qualified bidders will then take part in electronic bidding or an “e-auction”, where the lowest bid price will be awarded the project.

Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, said this is the first project in planned competition procedures in the next two years for the construction of 950 MW of renewable energy capacity, valued at EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.3bn). The next auction will target 150 MW of wind power generating capacity and will be held later this year, according to the minister.
