Kosovo's gross electricity production slightly increased to 5,912 GWh in 2018, from 5,906 GWh in the prior year, the national statistical office said on Thursday.

Thermal power plants produced 5,600.5 GWh of electricity, while hydro power plants generated 311.5 GWh, Kosovo's Agency of Statistics said in a statement.

Kosovo imported 659.2 GWh of electricity last year, down from 742.0 GWh in 2017, whereas power exports fell to 671.5 GWh from 885.7 GWh.

Coal output fell to 7.17 million tonnes from 7.57 million tonnes in 2017.

In the fourth quarter alone, Kosovo's gross power production rose to 1,416.2 GWh, from 1,162.5 GWh in the prior-year period.

Kosovo's power consumption in the October-December period increased 6.0% year-on-year to 1,159.2 GWh, with households having a share of 55.6% in total consumption.
