Queensland Hydro picks contractors for 2-GW pumped storage project
Sep 18, 2024 6:05 CESTKuwait Oil Company is planning to deploy 1 GW of solar energy in the Gulf country as part of a strategy developed by the Kuwaiti oil sector to reduce emissions and diversify the energy portfolio.
The company, a subsidiary of state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy on the connection of solar plants with a combined capacity of 1 GW, it said on Wednesday.
The pact is designed to foster collaboration and coordination between the company and the ministry, aimed at removing obstacles associated with the advancement of renewable energy projects.
Kuwait, which currently depends entirely on fossil fuels for energy production, aims to raise the proportion of renewable energy generation to 15% by 2030 to diversify its energy sources and meet the rapidly increasing demand.
In January, the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, launched a tender seeking a developer for 1.1 GW of solar photovoltaic capacity as part of the 4.5-GW Shagaya solar project.
