Kuwait Petroleum, KISR to initiate phase 2 of solar project - report

May 9, 2012 - State-owned oil and gas major Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC) and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) on Sunday agreed to carry out the second stage of a solar power project valued at KWD 1.5 million (USD 5.4m/EUR 4.1m), Kuwait Times reported on Sunday.

The KWD-74,000 first stage of the project included studies and research which showed the large potential of solar power in Kuwait. The second stage envisages the implementation of the solar project at three sites of KPC, including a petrol station, crude gathering centre and a gas plant of KPC's unit Kuwait Oil Tanker, the daily said citing KPC's CEO Farouk Hussein Al-Zanki.

The project is intended to promote solar power generation and reduce the reliance on conventional energy sources, Al-Zanki said.

The second phase will be carried out in three years, according to Al-Zanki.
