Kyocera, Toyota Tsusho, Wakachiku Construction work on 675-kW Maldives PV project

Jun 13, 2012 - Japanese electronics maker Kyocera Corp (TYO:6971) today said it was working on a 675-kW photovoltaic (PV) project in the Maldives in partnership with commodities trader Toyota Tsusho Corp (TYO:8015) and Wakachiku Construction Co Ltd.

The project envisages the installation of solar systems on 10 public facilities for the government of the Maldives.

The project partners have already completed the 395-kW first phase which includes 1,896 Kyocera modules spread on five locations. The installations will produce a total of 465,227 kWh of electricity a year, enough to save some 146 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, Kyocera estimates.

The second phase of the project includes the installation of solar systems with total capacity of 280 kW on five locations. The systems are planned to include 1,344 Kyocera modules.

The Japanese government's Official Development Assistance is financing the project through its Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Japan International Cooperation System.
