LafargeHolcim's cement plant in Maryland powered by 10 MW of solar

Swiss building materials giant LafargeHolcim Ltd (SWX:LHN) on Thursday said its cement plant in Maryland is now powered by a 10-MW solar farm.

The company developed the project in collaboration with Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company LLC. The solar farm, installed next to the plant in Hagerstown, will generate enough power to cover about 25% of the cement plant's annual needs and save about 12,375 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year.

LafargeHolcim has already installed solar arrays and wind turbines at four plant locations.

“As we strive toward becoming a net-zero company, clean energy is a key part of our strategy. During the next five years, we hope to install enough renewable energy to power all of our plants," CEO of US Cement operations, Jamie Gentoso, commented.
