The 20-MW Wynn Solar Facility started commercial operation on June 2 and is now offsetting up to 75% of Wynn Las Vegas' peak power needs, the Las Vegas resort said this week.

The photovoltaic (PV) project, whose direct current (DC) capacity is 27 MW, is located in Fallon, Nevada and is owned and operated by Enel Green Power North America Inc. The US renewables unit of Italy's Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) announced the power purchase agreement (PPA) with Wynn Las Vegas for the project in January this year.

The Wynn Solar Facility is situated next to and shares the connection infrastructure with the existing Stillwater geothermal-solar hybrid plant.

Wynn Las Vegas said that together with recently installed solar panels on its rooftop, enough renewable energy will be produced to power 5,056 homes and avert 33,734 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions a year.
