Le Havre Port to set up EUR 57m infrastructure in support of offshore wind industry

Jan 27, 2014 - Grand Port Maritime du Havre (GPMH) in northwest France will start a EUR-57.4-million (USD 78.5m) project, aimed at preparation of land for development of facilities in support of the offshore wind industry.

The French government will pour EUR 28 million in the initiative, while the port will invest EUR 12.3 million. The remaining sum of EUR 17.1 million will come from local institutions such as Upper Normandy Region, Agglomeration Community of Le Havre, the City of Havre and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Le Havre.

The money will be used to free up 44 ha (109 acres) of land at Joannes dock and to create conditions for establishment of manufacturing facilities for wind turbines components, and logistics and assembly sites, the port said last week.

The land is scheduled to be available for industrial activities in 2015 and the completion of all work is expected in 2017, according to the port.

Wind turbines manufacturers selected Le Havre port as a base to develop their activities first in 2011.
