Lebanon to bring live 1-MW solar system in early 2015

Sep 18, 2014 - Lebanon expects to wrap up the construction of a 1-MW solar plant at the start of next year, Energy and Water Minister Arthur Nazarian said on Wednesday.

The photovoltaic (PV) facility on Beirut river will be connected to the power grid of Electricite du Liban, Nazarian said during the Beirut Energy Forum, as quoted by the Daily Star.

Lebanon will also develop a 3-MW solar project as part of its plans to promote investment in the renewable energy sector, the minister noted.

Meanwhile, several wind farms with capacities of between 50 MW and 100 MW will be constructed in Lebanon under a tender contracts, Nazarian said, adding that results of the bidding procedures will be announced by end-2014 and presented to the Cabinet. He hopes to see "a remarkable shift" in the local wind energy sector next year.
