SolarMente, a Spanish green energy start-up backed by Silicon Valley accelerator Y Combinator, has attracted as a new investor Hollywood star and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio.

Founded in 2019, Barcelona-based SolarMente offers subscription-based integrated energy management services that combine solar panel installation, energy storage systems, virtual battery, electric vehicles (EV) charging and aerothermal systems.

“Crazy excited and honored to share that Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the world's biggest climate activists and actors, has partnered up with SolarMente to accelerate the Spanish energy transition,” the Spanish firm’s CEO Wouter Draijer commented on social media.

The transaction marked the first investment made by the American actor and film producer in Spain.

“SolarMente promotes accessible solar energy, making my support as an investor a responsible move towards a cleaner future. I’m proud to see Solarmente actively shaping a sustainable energy landscape,” DiCaprio said in a social media post.

The amount of the investment and the shareholding acquired remained undisclosed.
