Lietuvos Energija gets strong interest in quest for offshore wind partners

Lithuanian utility Lietuvos Energija has received expressions of interest (EOIs) from seven parties willing to join it as strategic partners in the development of offshore wind projects in the European Economic Area and potentially in the Baltic Sea.

The state-owned company launched the EOI process in February in search of “an experienced partner with a proven track record.” It said in a press release on Friday it had received initial interest from 10 potential partners, all of which are European offshore wind majors, while seven of them have submitted official EOIs.

As previously announced, the potential collaboration will be implemented in two stages, the first one of which involving the acquisition of a minority interest by Lietuvos Energija in a project in the late stage of development within the European Economic Area. The second phase envisages the development of offshore wind projects in Lithuanian waters.

The initiative is in line with Lietuvos Energija’s goal to have 3 GW of installed renewables capacity by 2030, with wind representing most of that. The utility also targets to gain experience in managing offshore wind projects before the launch of offshore wind tenders in Lithuania, planned for 2021-2022.
