Lithuania’s state-owned company Lietuvos Energija wants to partner with an experienced offshore wind developer in projects in the European Economic Area and, at a later stage, in the Baltic Sea.

The company on Wednesday announced an Expression of Interest (EOI) process in support of its search, saying it will decide on a potential partnership by the end of the year. The Lithuanian firm last year adopted a new energy plan that calls for it to add up to 3,000 MW of capacity, most of which wind.

The potential collaboration with “an experienced partner with a proven track record” is planned to be implemented in two stages, the first one of which involving the acquisition of a minority interest by Lietuvos Energija in a project in the late stage of development within European Economic Area. The second phase envisages the development of offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea through the potential partner’s “best-practises and expertise” in building offshore wind farms.

“Our aim is to collect the necessary experience and enlarge our own wind energy capacity now, to be able to participate successfully in the offshore wind farm’s development in Lithuania in the future,” Dominykas Tuckus, member of the board and director of infrastructure and development at Lietuvos Energija, said.
