Global solar developer Lightsource bp has announced a plan to build a 57-MWac solar farm with a 54-MW energy storage system in County Meath, Ireland.

The UK-based firm said this week it will present its proposal to residents from the area surrounding the selected site at a community information event on May 22.

The plan is to install the solar-plus-storage facilities on 182 acres (73.7 ha) of land at Cookstown Great and Grangegoddan Glebe in Kells. Lightsource bp said it had chosen these fields because they are well-screened by local topography which would limit any surrounding views of the solar installation.

The solar farm will feature wide avenues between the rows of solar panels so that grassland can be used for grazing livestock.

As designed, the proposed plant could potentially produce enough electricity to power 21,300 homes, according to Lightsource bp.
