Utility-scale solar developer Lightsource BP announced today that it is extending its European operations to include the energy sector in Italy.

With already established operations across Europe, the UK, Ireland and Netherlands in particular, Lightsource BP has now formed a Milan-based team. Its goal will be to create a pipeline of greenfield solar projects for utilities and co-develop them with local partners. The team will be engaged in energy storage, as well.

In June 2018, Italy joined other EU countries targeting 35% energy from renewables by 2030. This makes it an attractive market for the company, it said.

According to the announcement, Lightsource BP has more than 2 GW of in-house developed and third-party solar assets.
