Lightsource bp, the UK-based solar developer half owned by BP Plc (LON:BP), on Wednesday announced the start-up of two solar projects totalling 50 MWp in the UK that will deliver their power to fashion retailer H&M (STO:HM-B) under a multi-year contract signed in 2021.

The Streetfields and Northfield House solar parks, located in Leicestershire, will supply electricity for H&M’s business activities across the UK, helping the fashion company achieve its emissions reduction goals and reach 100% renewable electricity sourcing by 2030.

The solar projects went online in December 2022, the developer said. Their ownership was transferred to a fund managed by Schroders Greencoat, while Lightsource bp will be providing operation and maintenance services, which it already provides for 179 MW of Schroders Greencoat’s solar assets.

“Projects like these are a clear demonstration of how renewable energy partnerships between developers, investors and corporations can play a vital role in enabling the UK’s energy transition,” commented Kareen Boutonnat, Lightsource bp chief executive for EMEA and APAC.
