Linde unit, BP to open Australia’s first green H2 refuelling station

Engineering firm BOC, part of industrial gases supplier Linde Plc (NYSE:LIN), has clinched a deal to build and supply what will be Australia’s first green hydrogen refuelling station at a domestic petrol station.

The facility will be installed at the bp Truckstop in Lytton, Queensland, operated by the local unit of oil and gas major BP Plc (LON:BP), the companies said on Wednesday.

The refuelling station will be supplied with green hydrogen sourced from a nearby production site owned by BOC that uses a 220-kW electrolyser and electricity from solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. The Queensland government will be the first one to use its services for its fleet of five hydrogen-powered Hyundai vehicles.

The refuelling facility will deploy technology developed by Linde and will have the capacity to refill a hydrogen car in about three-five minutes. It is planned to become operational later this year.

“Working closely with our partner bp we will demonstrate how state-of-the-art hydrogen refuelling stations can be safely integrated into the existing service station network, paving the way for more infrastructure to facilitate hydrogen trucks and buses,” said John Evans, Managing Director of BOC South Pacific.

So far, Linde has installed more than 200 hydrogen refuelling stations globally.
