German energy group Uniper SE (ETR:UN0) has selected electrofuel plant specialist Liquid Wind to develop its NorthStarH2 project in Sweden which will convert biogenic carbon dioxide and renewable electricity into e-methanol.

NorthStarH2, which will be built in the municipality of Ostersund, will seek to produce over 100,000 tonnes of green methanol for the shipping and chemical industries.

Under the agreement, Liquid Wind will develop the project by applying the company’s proprietary project methodology, a standarised design and digital platform that enables efficient replication to replace fossil fuels and feedstock, a press statement said today.

The Tuesday announcement comes after the two companies in July signed a strategic partnership agreement under which Liquid Wind may provide development services for Uniper's future e-fuel plants.

NorthStarH2 marks Liquid Wind’s fifth project in the Nordic region.
