Bahamian firm Lucayas Solar Power Ltd has started operation of its 6-MW Fairfield solar farm in the island of Grand Bahama, IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank, said on Tuesday.

IDB Invest contributed to the project with a senior loan for up to USD 11.2 million (EUR 10.5m) to Lucayas to enable the firm to sell the solar energy to Grand Bahama’s sole power utility. As a result, Lucayas closed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Grand Bahama Power Company Limited.

The PPA covers the off-take from Fairfield and another grid-tied solar project developed by Lucayas called Devon. Devon will have about 5 MW of installed capacity.

Both projects are located in Grand Bahama's city of Freeport.

Lucayas Solar Power Ltd is an entity of Bahamian company Inti Corporation Ltd, which forms part of Inti Global Energies LLC Group in the United States.
