Solar developer and power producer Lodestone Energy has proposed building a 220-MW solar park in New Zealand’s South Island, planning to fund its construction through a recently proposed Series D capital raising.

Auckland, New Zealand-based Lodestone unveiled plans for the project on Monday, saying it will partner with Haldon Station for its execution.

The photovoltaic (PV) farm is set to be located within a 340-ha property in South Island’s Mackenzie district, with its construction scheduled to begin in 2025. Once up and running, the plant will be able to generate around 340 GWh of electricity annually, which will be enough to supply almost 50,000 homes.

Lodestone noted that the selected site is non-productive land with “ top-quality” solar resources, proximity to transmission infrastructure, good road access and minimal visual impact.

The Haldon Station park will expand Lodestone’s North Island island portfolio, which includes two operational solar farms and three projects currently under planning or construction. Early in 2024, the company received consent for three PV projects on New Zealand’s South Island, due to be installed between 2024 and 2026.
