China Longyuan Power Group (HKG:0916), in partnership with a unit of Shanghai Electric Power Co (HKG:2727), has completed what is said to be the world's first maritime renewable energy project that combines deep-sea floating wind and solar power generation with aquaculture.

Shanghai Electric said in a press statement that, through Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, it provided the power generation equipment and towers of the offshore turbines for the project.

The hybrid energy park was built within the National Marine Ranching Demonstration Zone on Nanri Island, located in Putian, Fujian Provence. It consists of three-column, semi-submersible floating platforms, each one accommodating a 4-MW turbine, and some flexible solar modules. At full capacity, they can generate 96 MWh of electricity per day.

Moreover, the platform has a hexagonal space within its central area that allows for fish farming. Shanghai Electric noted that the water depth in the area is around 35 metres.
