Swiss life science firm Lonza (VTX:LONN) said on Wednesday it has entered into an agreement with Clearway Energy Group to buy renewable energy certificates (RECs) related to its recently commissioned 452-MW Texas Solar Nova complex.

The deal marks Lonza’s first REC procurement at scale in the US and will enable the company to offset 100% of annual electricity consumption at its current US facilities, according to a press release.

The parties have signed three agreements for a total of 235,000 RECs for an equal number of megawatt-hours of consumed electricity per year as of January 2026.

The REC agreements with Clearway support Lonza’s push to cover its entire energy consumption with renewables where available by 2025. They follow two other major power purchase agreements (PPAs) previously signed in Europe and China.

The Texas Solar Nova 1 and 2 sites, of 252 MW and 200 MW each, are located in Kent County, Texas. They were energised at the beginning of the year.
