Bids in a tender for 70 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Tunisia have reached as low as TND 0.1253922 (USD 0.0442/EUR 0.0393) per kWh, the government said on Wednesday.

According to an update by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines, 16 projects were selected in two categories. Six of the selected proposals are for projects with individual capacities of 10 MW, while 10 projects are winners in the bidding window for small-scale installations of up to 1 MW each.

Prices in the tender ranged between TND 0.1253922/kWh, which was quoted for a 10-MW solar park in Medenine governorate, and TND 0.213500/kWh. The highest bid was placed for a project in Sfax governorate. Details on the selected proposals in the larger category are available in the following table.

Selected parties will be awarded long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with state-owned utility Societe Tunisienne de l’electricite et du gaz (STEG).

The tender was initiated in July 2019 as part of Tunisia’s efforts to meet its goal of adding 1 GW of renewables in 2017-2020 and 1.25 GW in 2021-2030.
