Lublin's MPWiK nears completion of 2-MWp PV system

The Municipal Water and Sewerage Company (MPWiK) in Lublin, the city in southeastern Poland, is nearing completion of a 2-MWp solar system, in which it invested roughly PLN 8 million (USD 1.9m/EUR 1.8m).

Installation of the 6,552 photovoltaic (PV) panels is in progress and the start of power generation is expected in June or July, MPWiK said on Tuesday.

The solar facility will be producing 2,000 MWh per year. It and an existing biogas plant, using sewage sludge in the gas production process, will be able to meet some 70% of the sewage treatment plant’s electricity demand.

The transmission system operator (TSO) in Poland recently said the country topped 1.83 GW of solar power generation capacity at the end of April.
