Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTIreland’s Mainstream Renewable Power announced on Thursday it has completed the installation of the first turbine of a 158-MW wind park in the semi-arid Sahel plain of Senegal.
The Taiba N’Diaye Wind Farm, as it is named, will have a total of 46 units of V126-3.45 MW wind turbines by Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS), erected at a site 90 km northwest of the capital Dakar.
Developed by the joint venture (JV) Lekela, 60%-owned by Actis and 40% by a group led by Mainstream, the plant is set to be the largest in West Africa and the first utility-scale wind farm in the country.
Scheduled to commence power supply to the national grid later this year, Taiba N’Diaye will increase Senegal's power generation capacity by 15% and produce enough electricity to meet the needs of 2 million people, Mainstream noted.
