Mingyang sets up wind turbine manufacturing JV in S Korea
Sep 05, 2024 13:32 CESTOcean Winds, jointly owned by EDP Renewables (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), and Mainstream Renewable Power have secured the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval for the 1,125-MW KF Wind floating project off the coast of Ulsan.
The developers announced this key milestone in a joint statement on Friday, saying that it allows them to advance the scheme towards construction. The EIA for this project is the result of more than 12 months of onsite monitoring and several rounds of consultations.
This approval was awarded by the Ministry of Environment together with the EIA nod for Hexicon’s MunmuBaram project of the same size.
In the case of KF Wind, the approval concerns both phases of the project – the 375-MW East Blue Power and the 750-MW KF Wind stages. The overall scheme calls for the installation of 75 turbines and floating foundations, two bottom fixed offshore substations, three 80-km-long submarine export cables, and one onshore substation. In addition, a 4.5-km-long onshore high-voltage power line is to be deployed until the interconnection point at Korea Electric Power Corporation’s (KEPCO) Shinonsan onshore substation.
Upon completion, the wind farms will have the combined capacity to produce 4,000 GWh of electricity annually.
Ocean Winds holds a 66.7% stake in the project company, while Mainstream Renewable Power has the remaining 33.3%.
