Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTMalawian state-owned power distributor Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Ltd (ESCOM) signed on Monday 14 power purchase agreements (PPAs) with several independent power producers (IPPs), local media reported.
The signatories are Germany’s Droege Energy GmbH, US consortium Quantel Renewable Energy Company Ltd, Malawi-based solar firm Atlas Energy Ltd and Electricity Generation Company Malawi Limited (Egenco), per Malawian newspaper The Daily Times.

Of the 14 PPAs, four are tied to new renewable energy capacity and will add 140 MW to the Malawian power mix.
According to media reports, German turnkey project developer Droege Energy will build a 20-MW floating solar farm on the Lake Malawi in the Monkey Bay area and the 50-MW Mphamvu Mzimba wind farm.
Atlas will add another 20 MW of solar power, while Quantel will build the 50-MW Bwengu ground-mounted solar park in the Mzimba District of Malawi.
Egenco secured 10 PPAs for its existing output produced by the power company’s large hydropower plants and diesel generators.
