The Maldives government on Tuesday invited interested local and international companies to take part in the tender process for a 12.5-MW solar project that is planned to be executed on the outer islands of the South Asian country.

Bids must be submitted by July 4, 2024, and a pre-bid meeting is scheduled for March 27.

This will be the largest private sector led project in the energy sector in Maldives in terms of capacity and investments.

As in previous projects of this kind, the Maldives government is collaborating with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which serves as the transaction advisor. At the start of the year, the ADB agreed to provide the state with about USD 50 million (EUR 46m) in grant financing and a concessional loan to support renewable power generation and grid upgrade projects in the Maldives.
