Vistra agrees USD 3.25bn buyout of zero-carbon energy unit
Sep 19, 2024 11:01 CESTMalta Inc, a developer of grid-scale, long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions, has signed a pact with Schmid Pekintas to hybridise a gigawatt-scale portfolio of solar energy projects of the Turkish solar energy company at home, as well as in the US and Europe.
The parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to consider the deployment of Malta’s LDES systems at 540 MW of pre-licensed solar schemes in Turkey.
At the same time, the two companies will explore the provision of energy storage solutions into 200-500 MW of existing and new solar projects across various South European countries and US states, including California, New Mexico and Texas, targeting a combined storage deployment of up to 1 GW over the next five years, a press statement said today.
Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Malta develops thermo-electric energy storage systems comprised of conventional components and raw materials such as molten salt, chilled commodity liquid, metals, alloys and composites.
Schmid Pekintas offers a broad range of turn-key solar services, including manufacturing, construction and project development. It claims to be the largest solar module manufacturer both in Turkey and Europe with an annual capacity of 2.5 GW.
