Mammoet to support staging of GE turbines for Dogger Bank offshore project

GE Renewable Energy on Monday said that Mammoet UK will be its cranes and logistics supplier for the 3.6-GW Dogger Bank offshore wind farm in the UK.

Thornaby Teesside-based Mammoet will provide onshore heavy lifting and transport for the staging and assembly of 277 sets of blades, nacelles and towers for the Dogger Bank wind farm at the project’s marshalling harbour, Able Seaton Port. GE said it will start preparing the harbour and receiving components at the end of 2022.

The turbine manufacturer finalised all supply contracts for the 3.6-GW offshore wind park in May 2021. In July this year, it was reported that the company had abandoned plans for the construction of an offshore wind blade manufacturing plant on Teesside.

The Dogger Bank project, located over 130 km (81 miles) off the north-east coast of England, is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vargronn. It will be built in three phases and is set to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm when completed in 2026.

Simon Bailey, commercial director for Dogger Bank Wind Farm, welcomed the news that another company from the north-east of England has won contracts in the supply chain.
