The facility located in the Sal Island is the first of the two solar plants contracted with Cape Verde's Government in January 2010.
The new plant has a 2.5 MW capacity with the possibility to be expanded by another 2.5 MW until 2014. The facility was wholly designed, developed and equipped by Martifer Solar.
The second plant of the project will be opened in November. It will be located in the Santiago Island and will have a capacity of five megawatts.
The two facilities will produce power accounting for almost 4% of the total electricity generated in Cape Verde avoiding emission of 13,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
