Japan’s Marubeni Corporation (TYO:8002) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state-owned Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Ltd (EGCB) for the joint development of a 100-MW solar project in the country.

Located in the southeast city of Feni, the photovoltaic (PV) scheme can become one of the largest in Bangladesh. It is also the first independent power producer (IPP) project for Marubeni there. The company has installed about 1.3 GW of gas-fired and hydropower capacity in the country.

The solar project MoU is in line with the local government's aim of increasing the share of renewable energy capacity to 10% of the country’s total capacity.

No additional information about the PV park was disclosed in the press release.
