Masdar inaugurates 6-MW wind farm in Seychelles - report

Jun 17, 2013 - Abu Dhabi's renewables developer Masdar celebrated the wrap up of its 6-MW wind park in the Republic of Seychelles, Dubai daily Gulf News said on Sunday.

Masdar took care of the development and delivery of the facility, which was built thanks to a AED-102.8-million (USD 28m/EUR 21m) grant by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). Owned and operated by the local government, the Port Victoria wind farm is estimated to provide more than 8% of the grid capacity of the largest island in Seychelles -- Mahe. The project was backed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the newspaper said.

The 6-MW wind park has eight turbines of 750 kW, coming from South Korea, that are capable of generating 7 GWh of electricity a year. Its output is enough to supply over 2,100 households and offset about 5,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, according to the developer.

The Republic of Seychelles aims to source 15% of its energy from renewables by 2030.
